Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been launched in India as the world’s lightest wide foldable smartphone weighing 201 grams. The device features Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 4,800mAh battery, advanced AMOLED displays, Android 17, Wi-Fi 7, and premium storage options, targeting the growing foldable smartphone market.

Samsung has launched its latest Galaxy Z Fold 8 in India, introducing the company’s and the country’s first wide foldable smartphone. Weighing just 201 grams, the device is claimed to be the world’s lightest foldable phone. Compared with previous Samsung foldable models, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is smaller in size but wider in design, offering users a new form factor experience similar to the shape of a passport.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and comes with a large 4,800mAh battery. Samsung has designed the device to provide an enhanced experience for gaming, entertainment, reading, and productivity.

The foldable phone features a 10:16 cover screen ratio when folded, while the main display offers a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded. Samsung stated that the display is optimized for immersive gaming and movie viewing. When rotated, the same screen ratio becomes suitable for reading, allowing users to comfortably view articles, e-books, and long-form content.

The 12GB RAM with 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs 1,79,999.

The 12GB RAM with 512GB storage variant is priced at Rs 1,99,999.

The 16GB RAM with 1TB storage variant is priced at Rs 2,39,999.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Specifications

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 weighs 201 grams and features a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and Vision Booster technology. The cover display includes a 5.5-inch WUXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and Vision Booster technology.

The smartphone is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and is available in three memory configurations: 16GB RAM with 1TB storage, 12GB RAM with 512GB storage, and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage.

For photography, the device includes a dual rear camera setup featuring a 50MP wide-angle camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. It also comes with a 10MP cover camera and a 10MP main screen camera for selfies and video calls.

The phone is powered by a 4,800mAh typical dual battery system. It supports charging through a 45W adapter and offers 20W fast wireless charging support. The device comes with an IP48 water resistance rating.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 runs on Android 17 with One UI 9 and supports 5G, LTE, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. It will be available in Graphite, Cream, and Lavender colour options.

Samsung’s Wide Foldable Phone to Compete with Apple Foldable Device

Samsung’s new wide foldable smartphone is expected to compete with Apple’s upcoming foldable device, as Apple may introduce its first wide foldable phone in September. However, Samsung will receive credit for bringing a wide foldable smartphone to the Indian market first.

Earlier, Oppo also introduced its wide foldable phone, indicating that the Indian smartphone market could witness launches of several wide foldable devices from multiple companies in the coming months.
